Multifactor Authentication 

There are two installation procedures to complete to allow use of the Authenticator app for MFA for Office 365.  These instructions were written for an Android phone. If you have an iPhone/iOS device the actual steps and screen shots may differ.

 

  1. On your phone download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

 

On your phone open the Authenticator app:

  • Select "+ Add account" in the Authenticator app. 
  • Select "Work or school account" 

 

Proceed to the next step:

 

 

  1. Setup Office 365 to use the Authenticator app 
  • From your Office 365 home page, click on your picture or initials (depends on whether you have added a picture to your profile) and select "View account

 

  • Find "Security info" and click on "Update info

 

  • Click on "Add method

 

  • Select "Authenticator app" from the list 

 

  • Click “Next” – you should have already installed the app in Step 1 of this process. 

 

 

  • On the next screen Set up your account click “Next”.

 

  • Using the Authenticator app on your phone, scan the QR code displayed. 

 

  • Click “Next”. 
  • An approval request will be sent to your phone. Approve the request. 

 

  • When you receive the "Notification approved" message on your computer click “Next”. 

 

  • You will be returned to the Security info screen.  
  • Set your default authentication method – click on “Set default sign-in method”. 

 

  • Select "Microsoft Authenticator – notification" and click “Confirm”.
